This news story has been around for a short while, but I thought it was more than worthy of being looked at. Imagine a future where you didn’t have to plug a device in to charge it.
That is what is being offered with “resonance technology”. This technology offers the potential for any electronic device you can think off, to be recharged without the need for wires.
I would offer an explanation on this technology, but I think it can be more than adequatly explained at the link I posted at the beginning of the story.
This is the type of technology that I have been dreaming about. That I have discussed with friends of mine; and would gladly welcome as soon as possible.
There is of course a *potential* risk to this, as the energy being transmitted is done so at close to the magnetic spectrum, and other more dangerous areas of energy, but I believe that they can get this right.
It’s fascinating to know that Nikola Tesla was experimenting with this same technology more than a 100 years ago, and very nearly suceeded in creating a working example of it, as discussed in the BBC news story. Needless to say the more I find out about the man, the more I am intrigued; but I am getting slightly off topic here (and Tesla might well form the subject of a future post ;) ).
The notion of charging any device wirelessly will not only be hugely practical, but just plain cool.

This coupled with the new and potentially important Tesla Motor Car is very exciting I feel.
Imagine being able to drive at the same speeds you can today, whilst coming home to your own charging port in your garage (for example) and not having to lift a finger to do so.  It charges wirelessly instead.

Now *that* is exciting. Can’t wait :)
For a demonstration of the resonance energy system, here is a video of the process, as demonstrated by WiTricity Chief Executive Eric Giler.  (courtesy of the WiTricity Corp. website).
